‘song of the sea’ // sumi ink + paper collage
painted/collaged this awhile back. i like pretty paper. i also like chinese ink a lot.
the boat is the carmina mare, which was a sailboat that washed onto the shore in el segundo. i saw the boat when i was there a couple years ago. it was ultimately destroyed by a bulldozer after failed attempts to get her back into the water. the man who owned it had it mooring outside of the marina as he was about to sail her around the world.
this story resonated with me. i think about it a lot and was excited to find this piece while i was cleaning the other day. i never really shared it with anyone, so i’m glad it has a place here.
